Text Box: Our big annual event held on Tuesday, March 17 was a phenomenal success in more ways than one.    First, there was the current nation-wide economic calamity.  Our committee was humming along at a great pace with over 75% of the booths reserved by Thanksgiving.  Then came the big drastic downturn, and, then -whoosh!  We lost 22 exhibitors in about a month.   Slowly, but surely, we worked our back to a pretty fair amount of exhibitors - 80 to be exact, by the time of the Show.   Second:  The guest turnout was much better than expected.  Several exhibitors related that they had not expected a very good crowd.  As the evening progressed, however, the crowd flowed into the Showroom at a good, steady pace. Eventually, the attendance exceeded the total of our two previous years at this location - 600 +.  This was not just "happen stance".  Our committee made a tremendous effort to get out the word to the entire mid-south construction industry - architects, engineers, interior designers, contractors, owners and material suppliers.  Due to the committee efforts, the vast majority of exhibitors were very, very pleased - declaring it our best PDS in several years!   Third: There were a few exhibitors who were not so pleased; but, due to the turnout, their negative reports were neutralized by overwhelming positive reports.  An example: one exhibitor on the front row was displeased as he reported that, "everyone rushed by me to get to the bar-b-que!".  Yet, his neighbor, in the booth right next to him, exclaimed that he had never had such results for customers and wanted to go to two booths in 2010!  "Can we obtain another booth in this same area?", was his request.  We worked it out so that he will have two adjoining booths next year in his present location.   Now for the results of the "Best Booth" competition and the recipients of the PDS door prizes:   Booth Prizes: Third Place: Booth No. 49 -Farrell-Calhoun Paints; Second Place: Booth No. 23 - Central Sales Company; and First Place: Booth No. 44/45 - Brandon Company. Door Prizes:  Third Prize ($100.00) -  Steven Willis; Second Prize ($200.00) - Jason Sholtz, and First Prize ($300.00) - our own Scott Guidry!   Another report: As most of you know, the Institute had declared a 50/50 membership drive during our Show from 3/17-3/31, 2009.  Due to the efforts of Alzbeta Bowden, Pamela Davidson, Rachel Gardner and Wally Bostelmann, who (prior to , during and after the PDS) pushed this wonderful opportunity, our Chapter may gain about a dozen new members!  Our Chapter should very grateful for their efforts.   Finally, this article would not be complete without a big, big "Thank You!" to those who served on the 2009 PDS Committee: Alzbeta Bowden - ID Badges/Exhibitor Packets; Charles Cooper - Sales; Gary Cofer - Awards; Gary Copeland - Photographer; Danny Clark - Tickets/Marketing; Jon Schrack - Food & Beverage (we've got to get this guy some help next year!); Mark Wilson - Student Chapter President; O.
