Continuing a Tradition of Excellence

The Memphis Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute is honored to host of the 2017 CSI Gulf States Regional Conference. In order to maximize this opportunity, we will be holding our annual Products Display Show, now known as BUILD/IT, to kick off the conference.  BUILD/IT 2017 will continue the updated version of this successful, long-time Memphis area tradition. Our goal is to shine the spotlight on all facets of the construction industry – and we want you join with us to create a stellar weekend of events.  BUILD/IT 2017 is totally free to all members of the architecture, engineering, design, and construction professionals and will be on April 20, 2017 at the Columns at One Commerce Square in Downtown Memphis. The show will begin at 3:30 PM with the keynote presenter.  The show floor will open at 4:30 PM; space for the products display show is limited.  Only 50 products and services companies working for the betterment of improving or advancing the world of design and construction will have product display opportunities.

Keynote Presenter - Marlon Blackwell, FAIA

Marlon Blackwell, FAIA, is a practicing architect in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and serves as the E. Fay Jones Distinguished Professor at the Fay Jones School of Architecture + Design at the University of Arkansas.  Working outside the architectural mainstream, his architecture is based in design strategies that draw upon vernaculars, typologies, and the contradictions of place: strategies that seek to transgress conventional boundaries for architecture.  His design work has received recognition with numerous national and international design awards and significant publication in books, architectural journals and magazines.

Marlon Blackwell Architects recently completed work on the Heart of Shelby Farms Park and was also named the Number 1 architectural practice in the United States by the AIA's Architect Magazine.  Other works by Blackwell and his firm include  The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art Museum Store in Bentonville, AR, the Fullbright Building in Fayetteville, AR, Fayetteville Highschool and more.  Please join us at 3:30 on Thursday, April 20 2017 at the Columns in One Commerce Square for his presentation.  Admission to this presentation and the BUILD/IT Show floor is free of charge, but we ask that you leave us a business card. Also,  for each $10 donation you make to the Dempsie B Morrison Scholarship fund  you will receive 2 addition drink tickets.

The Dempsie B. Morrison Scholarship

All of the proceeds from both the 2017 CSI Memphis BUILD/IT Products Display Show and Gulf States Region Conference will go to the Dempsie B. Morrison Scholarship Fund.  This fantastic scholarship provides a full tuition for two students at the University of Memphis Department of Architecture a year.  That means that every sponsor, exhibitor and contributor assist in providing a quality education to the future leaders of our industry.  The Dempsie. B. Morrision Scholarship has a long history in elevating excellent students at the U of M.  Many past recipients have gone to successful careers in the Architectural, Engineering and Construction industries in Memphis and beyond.

Historically, the Products Display Show is the largest fund raiser for this cause.  Please help us continue this tradition by joining us for the BUILD/IT Products Display Show on April 20, 2017.  We have a variety of sponsorship levels and are providing an excellent opportunity for visibility for exhibitors and sponsors alike.  CSI Memphis will host the Gulf States Region Conference.  CSI members from across Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle, providing a unique outreach opportunity.
